Pascoe River, Wenlock River, Bramwell Junction

We were on the road at 8:15.
The Pascoe River crossing to the Frenchman's track hadn't improved over night - how rude!!! Haha it still looked really gnarly and risky. The men walked the river again, but it still didn't look good.

In the end they decided that the risks out-weighed the fun factor so we turned around and headed to a different track. This one is considered the 'chicken' track but we're re-naming it the 'smart' track.
Driving on the wide graded road was a bit of a bummer compared to the 4WDing on the other track, but once we were past the Pascoe Station, it got better and was more fun:)

The Pascoe River crossing that we did..... Way safer:)

The kids trying out the river crossing........

Fun in the water........

Another creek crossing........
From there we also had to go through the Wenlock River..... Didn't realize that we would get another river crossing so bonus!!! This made us even more thankful that we didn't take on the Pascoe River crossing on the Frenchman's Track. We heard later on that some people actually got through that track, then got totally stuck in two huge bog holes over the hill!!!! Man I'm glad!!!!!!

The cars needed a wash BADLY!!!!!! So the middle of the river was a good spot to do that;)

Beautiful spot - the rocks look like reef.......

We lunched at the Wenlock River - different crossing - over a bridge this time :(

Just before the bridge we saw this in a tree.......(close up next photo)

How awesome is that????
We also had a look at the Moreton Telegraph Station. There was photos there of the station in the dry and in the wet - unrecognizable!!!!!!
Went and had a look at the start of the Old Telegraph track; the first crossing was called Palm Creek. AWESOME!!!!!!!! We are going to have fun tomorrow!!!

Some guy got really badly bogged there.......(broke his snatch strap trying to be recovered)

Bramwell Junction Roadhouse.........

The Number Plate tree...... The owner of the roadhouse collects them from all the cars that come through with their number plate not secured properly......

After watching them for a couple of hours, they eventually got out:) we decided to go camp at the Bramwell Station, where they have HOT showers, a bar where the men could buy a cold beer (they've been hanging out for one since we drove through a 'dry' community and on the side of the road up to and leaving there were beer cans on the side of the road.

The bar where they got their beer.....

Was a really cute little place.....

Our camp site......

Ours and theirs........

If you look closely, you can see the moon sitting just above the fence...... This proves that i was up EARLY!!!! It was better earlier but i was in line for the shower and the shower won over an awesome photo......

Thats all for today.....

Chilli Beach, Portland Roads.

We packed up by 8:30..... It takes lots longer to pack up when you've been in one spot for a while......:)
This morning Dad and Mum Evans have decided to head home:( Dad is not feeling very well and is getting too worn out keeping up with us, so they decided to leave us and head back to Cairns at their own pace.

They all had hugs, kisses and lots of photo's........(this is the best one)

Crossing the Pascoe River.........

Our first stop was Chilli Beach - we can't find why it's called Chilli Beach, but we came up with a theory...... It's REALLY windy which equals chilly so therefore the name Chilli Beach..... Lol

Do you think it's windy????? Lol

Cool sand waves.......

Boys doing funky moves on the very windy beach........

View from out on the mud flats........

Matching cars.......(very dirty cars......)

A thong tree on the edge of the beach......... The southern end of this beach collects all sorts of rubbish which floats in from the Philippines and Vanuatu.
Shana found one and wrote her name on one and stuck it on the tree but I forgot to take a photo of it.......
From there we went onto Portland Roads - another beach on the other side of the point.

A prawn trawler which has 6 tenders tied onto it.........

Mud flats with a big ship in the distance.........

View from the mudflats looking back........

Cameron found an Awesome colourful bug........

Brad eating oysters off the rocks.......

We found a star fish.......

And a cool shell.......

Funny coral........

A very baby eel.......

We came across a big sinkhole while we were driving along a track. It was very deep - the photo doesn't really show the depth that well, but it is a lot deeper.

A sink hole...... And yes Mum they are standing right on the edge...... Lol

We came across a river (the Pascoe River but in a different section) crossing that has a rather hairy entry and exit; so the men had a bit of a walk through, to check out the river crossing, as well as the exit point on the other side of the river.

Steve and Brad walking the River...... Brad holding onto his 'crocodile jellybeans' haha (an old guy told him that at the last stop).....

As it was heading towards night time we decided to camp on this side of the River and tackle the crossing in the morning, so we have the whole day in case something goes wrong. That meant that we had to return the way we came, which was also quite hairy!!!,

This got a sh@$ out of Michelle........

The evening sky from our camp site.....
Anyway gotta go.

Musgrave, Coen, Lilly Lagoon

Guess What????? We were on the road at 8:05!!!!! That is a New Record!!!!!

Our first port of call was Musgrave, and one of six telegraph stations, built in between Cooktown and Cape York. Designed as a fortress against Aboriginal attack, it was named after the governor of Queensland, Sir Anthony Musgrave.

Musgrave Roadhouse......

One of the Telegraph workers.........A dead one obviously.......lol

From Musgrave we drove on to Coen, which meant we had to drive over the Bamboo Range - part of the Great Dividing Range.
Coen is a town that has 300 inhabitants, 80% of which are Aboriginal. They also had a telegraph station which is now a heritage house.

Heritage House in Coen........

I think the Pub has identity problems....... Lol

In the little store in town there they sold a local delicacy called Salted Plums. They were very tasty - NOT!!!! Man they were salty!!!!! And they did this to your tongue.......

Brad at his most elegant....... Haha

Mum wasn't so sure about it........

Makes your mouth water doesn't it??????? Sure won't be buying them again........lol

Archer River was next on the map, where we stopped to sort out camping spots. We decided against staying at the caravan park, choosing instead to find a more private campsite. We found an AWESOME spot at Lilly Lagoon, along the Archer River, and decided to stay until Monday. We stopped at 12:30ish and the kids were stoked to be stopping so early.

The sign at the start of the campground......

First fish of many!!!......

View from our tent......

Peaceful hey????.......

Nope no Crocs......

Our camp......nice clean sand:)

Morning coffee time......

Savannah and Shana dug a big hole, lined it with a tarp and filled it with river water to make a bath........ It took them ages!!!! But they had fun with it:)

Man it's a hard life...... So many pressing things to do......lol

Washing time..... Awesome with fresh water!!!!
I was able to have a hot fresh water shower EVERY night!!!! This is the best spot ever!!!

Our car could use a wash...... Haha
While searching the water for fresh water prawns (Cherabin)

, Brad found a little turtle in the creek.

Mr turtle........

Me being VERY brave......

We put the turtle in the girls pool...... As well as a frog Brad found, and a Cherabin (fresh water prawn)......
We spent our Sunday here also, having church at 10am. We listened to a sermon from Rev S Ollyott on 2 Corinthians 8 on the Gift of Giving, how we should all be gracious willing givers because of the Lord Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for all our sins.
After sermon discussion and morning tea, it was time for some R and R (resting and reading)

Was time to fill in the hole from the girls pool, so that naturally means getting buried of course!!!! Bunch of dorks!!!!
We had a great weekend at this place, resting and enjoying the scenery. God has blessed us with a safe trip so far, for which we are extremely thankful. We hope and pray that He guides and protects us in the coming weeks also.
That's all for today:)
