Winton

At 8:31 (getting there..... Eventually we might be on the road at 8!!!! Have managed to cut a half hour of packing time:)
We headed off from Longreach, to Winton, the place where Waltzing Matilda was sung for the first time.

We went to the Waltzing Matilda centre, to go through the museum, to be told that the waltzing Matilda show (which is the main attraction) was broken so we wouldn't be able to see it; so we decided to save our money and do something in another town.... (there's ALWAYS things in nearly every town)

Walking around the town was pretty cool, there was Arno's Wall, which some guy (clearly a slightly nutty guy) has decided to build this fence full of junk. It stretches over 70 metres!

Winton is also the Dinosaur capital of Australia, hence the Dino bins..... The dinosaur fossils etc were at Lark Quarry conservation park, which we passed about 10kms before Winton without realizing, so we gave that one a miss too....
On our way out of town, we stopped at the Musical Fence. Someone has gone to the trouble of building a shelter with resonators in the roof. A fence has been built with four different lengths of wire sections, so when you hit the wires with a stick the sound travels along the wire and up the posts into the resonators - making music!!
It was really good fun, playing tunes on a fence!! Who would have thought?
There was also a drum kit made out of junk, and other things like xylophones etc, great fun was had by all:)

It was time to head out to find a campsite, so off we went heading towards Hughenden. 180kms later we found a spot next to a little water hole, near an unused railway. Very nice and peaceful compared to the riverside park in Longreach!!!!
Kade was especially happy with the water hole, seeing that he bought a red-claw net in Winton.

He caught 5 little fish in his net, which was baited with some of Sunday's left over roast - he forgot to take photo's :(
